A SPECIAL event is being held to celebrate the launch of a new cancer support service in Barrow.

CancerCare, which started operating in the town earlier this year, has expanded into a new base at the Trinity Church Centre in Abbey Road.

To celebrate, the team is is hosting a coffee morning from 10am until noon tomorrow.

The centre is due to be officially opened by mayor of Barrow, Councillor Tony Callister, who will cut the ribbon at the opening before everyone enjoys the morning's refreshments. Services offered will include counselling and massage, available to local cancer patients and their family members, completely free of charge.

The event will also provide a chance for people to meet some of the CancerCare team to find out more about their future plans and to help raise funds to support their vital work.

CancerCare Barrow development officer, Rachel Minshull, said: “This new centre allows our clients a relaxed environment to have a drink before or after their therapy and allows me the chance to meet and greet people.”
