FORMER pupils of a Barrow secondary school will reunite at a special event this weekend after saying their goodbyes 30 years ago.

Parkview's class of 1987, and anyone else who wants to reminisce about their school days, have been invited to a well-timed get-together at Traditions in Hindpool Road on Saturday.

Harry Stewart, 47, of Greengate Street organised the event and is hoping to catch up with old friends and chat about times gone by.

He said: "We never really get together and talk about the old times or speak about our old teachers - we're hoping for a big turnout."

Parkview was one of three schools in the area incorporated into what is now Furness Academy, as part of a council-led initiative to boost educational standards.

Following the public consultation, Parkview, Thorncliffe and Alfred Barrow schools were successfully merged in 2009 and pupils were spread across two sites, using buildings from Thorncliffe and Parkview.

The sites were occupied for several years before a new multi-purpose building costing £22m opened in 2013.

The reunion will take place on Saturday, September 9, from 7pm.
