A MUSICAL event organised to honour the life of a popular soul fan who died earlier this year has surpassed expectations by selling all tickets within weeks.

Steve Neep was 64 when he collapsed in Nuffield Health Centre, Barrow, and later died in Furness General Hospital on New Year's Day.

Friends and family decided to throw a charity party on Saturday September 24 to celebrate the life of the northern soul fan.

Rob Mckeever was a close friend of Mr Neep and paid tribute to the former Evening Mail compositor.

He said: "Steve was a great guy, many things to many people but there is no getting away from his life long association with Soul music, whether it be Northern, Funk or Modern.

"Steve along with his peers was responsible for bringing Northern Soul to Barrow.

"In the 60s he was an iconic MOD, a sharp dresser, he wore mohair suits, Ben Sherman shirts and denim and we all wanted to be like him."

DJ's will play the best of soul music as a tribute, focusing on tunes from the Twisted Wheel club in Manchester which was a regualr haunt for the staunch football fan.

The event will be held at BAE sports and social club in Hawcoat lane, Barrow and all proceeds will be donated to the British Heart foundation and Furness Motor Neurone charities.

Anyone who has not managed to buy a ticket can still donate money to the chosen causes.
