ORGANISERS of a charity music extravaganza set to take place this week have been forced to cancel the event.

Newbarns Primary School's Glee Club was due to be joined by pupils from the Drama Club and special guests for the One Night Only concert on Friday in memory of a popular journalist.

The show was set to be a fundraiser for Jo's Appeal, which was set up in memory of North-West Evening Mail reporter Jo Davies. Jo died in August, five-and-a-half years after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

However, due to illness, the event has had to be cancelled and it is hoped the concert will be held in the autumn term with the same performers.

Tickets purchased for Friday's event will still be valid for the rearranged night, date to be confirmed, or a refund is available. Call the school on 01229 877442 for more information.

Jo's Appeal raises funds for Furness General Hospital oncology unit, St Mary’s Hospice and national women’s cancer charity, The Eve Appeal.

Among her roles, Jo was a dedicated Newbarns correspondent and Newbarns Primary want to remember her and raise money for the charities.

The concert was due to feature song, dance and drama from the musicals, such as Mary Poppins and Les Misérables, and renditions of pop numbers from the likes of Adele and Bruno Mars.
