HUGE tailbacks are being reported on the A590 between Ulverston and Barrow.

Motorists have said that traffic is stretching all the way back to the Booths roundabout in Ulverston on the westbound carriageway of the A590, while delays are also being reported heading out of Barrow as a result of shipyard finishing times.

The delays are understood to be caused by temporary traffic lights on the A590 at Lindal, where work is being carried out to prevent future flooding at the Lindal Dip.

The lights are set to be in place for another five weeks.

At different times, the tailback in one direction is always far longer than the other direction - so why don't they set the traffic lights to let a few more cars through, then change it later? That would cut the massive queue a lot. Or is that too sensible suggestion?

Personally I would like to thank every car driver I have been stuck behind this week for sitting there with their foot on the brake pedal, brake lights on, for 4 or 5 mins at a time dazzling me and giving me a suntan ! Put your handbrake on you silly people and think about the car behind you.
