MORE bobbies are set to be recruited to police the streets of Barrow.

Cumbria Police has launched a recruitment drive to sign up a number of police officers across the county, with particular emphasis placed on the need to recruit more bobbies in Barrow.

Two recruitment sessions are set to be held at Barrow police station in Andrews Way on Thursday October 6, the first between 5.30pm and 6.30pm and the second from 6.30pm until 7.30pm.

Superintendent Rob O’Connor said: "Those who attend will be able to see what the role of a Police Officer is, and how there are fantastic career opportunities to progress into specialist departments or to be promoted to a higher rank.

"Twenty five years ago I embarked on this journey having served my time as an apprentice in the shipyard. I have worked on some really interesting investigations, and made some great friends, but most importantly I have served the public.”

"The police requires a real diverse mix to properly represent the communities we serve. We need people in our ranks from all walks of life. Our website gives information about what formal qualifications and fitness levels people need to attain etc.

"However there are also skills which cannot be taught, such as life skills and dealing with people in the time of their greatest need.

"The police has afforded me great opportunities over the last 25 years, and I would really encourage people to come along and see what we have to offer."
