MOTORISTS are experiencing delays and queuing traffic on three main routes in and out of Barrow because of a series of separate roadworks being carried out simultaneously.

Temporary traffic lights have this morning been put up in Greengate Street, between the junction with Risedale Road and just before the railway bridge near Park Avenue while resurfacing work takes place.

The lights are due to be in place for one week.

Roadworks in Abbey Road The restriction will add to motorists' frustrations as they already face diversions or delays because of roadworks taking place in Abbey Road between Hollow Lane and Park Drive with traffic only able to travel in the direction away from the town centre.

Those works, for resurfacing, are due to be completed by the end of this week.

Roadworks in Salthouse Road Meanwhile, temporary traffic lights are in place in Salthouse Road at the junction with Rawlinson Street to allow utility works to be carried out ahead of the junction improvement works.

Cumbria County Council's roadworks map states those lights are due to be taken down at the end of this week.

The three sets of roadworks being carried out concurrently mean that motorists will be restricted by which alternatives to use.

Many had been using Salthouse Road and the Coast Road to get to the A590 while the Lindal Dip was being fixed, although this work is now complete.

Greengate Street had been being used by some as a diversion for the partially closed Abbey Road.
