HOSPITAL bosses have dismissed a midwife following the tragic death of a newborn baby in March.
The conduct of the employee, who was immediately suspended from work, was deemed to have fallen 'substantially below' acceptable standards during the serious incident at Furness General Hospital's maternity unit.
A full investigation into the tragedy was undertaken by experts from the Royal Preston Hospital.

The report is now complete and the findings have been shared with the family involved.
Dr David Walker, medical director at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, said: "In March 2016, we launched an independent investigation following a serious clinical incident at Furness General Hospital to understand what happened, and whether there was anything we could have done differently.
"This investigation is now complete, and we have shared the findings directly with the family concerned, and remain in contact with them.
"After the incident, we placed a staff member under precautionary suspension as per trust policy.
"Following a disciplinary hearing, the member of staff has been dismissed as the panel felt her conduct fell fundamentally below our acceptable standards."
Dr Walker added: "The staff member has the right to appeal the decision, so it would not be appropriate to discuss any further details."
