ROADS in Barrow town centre have now been re-opened after police resolved an incident with a man who had been threatening to jump from Michaelson Road Bridge.

Michaelson Road Bridge and Hindpool Road by Cornmill Crossing had both been blocked off by uniformed officers. Vehicles were not being allowed to turn left onto Hindpool Road from Morrisons towards the town centre but the car park remained open to traffic turning right onto Hindpool Road.

It is understood police also blocked off the steps leading from Michaelson Road Bridge down to the petrol station at Morrisons.

Speaking at 3.20pm, a witness told The Mail : "A man's been threatening to jump from the bridge for the last hour."

At 4.15pm, police confirmed the matter had been resolved.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 2.14pm today with reports of concern for the welfare of a man on Michaelson Road, Barrow.”
