A NUMBER of residents in Hawcoat and other areas of Barrow have reported that their new garden waste wheelie bins have not been emptied - despite being asked to put them out yesterday.

Since April 1, households across the borough of Barrow will be subject to an annual £35 fee if they want to have their garden waste bins emptied once a fortnight.

The new collection service is being carried out by FCC Environment, a private company, which is charging each property £35 per bin to take away garden waste.

Under the new 'garden waste club' scheme, which will be run by FCC for the next seven years, garden waste collections will take place fortnightly, on a Monday.

However, despite being advised to put their bins out yesterday for their first collection, a number of residents have reported that their bins have not been emptied.

The Evening Mail has contacted FCC Environment.
