MEMBERS of the so-called Garden Waste Club have continued to complain about the £35-a-year service as some claim to have been waiting to have their bins emptied for five weeks.

A number of residents were emailed by FCC Environment, the private company which now offers to remove garden waste fortnightly, last week to inform them that issues with the service were because of "unexpected high demand".

The delays have led to some who are yet to have their brown bins emptied to argue their 'start date' for the £35-a-year annual membership should be put back to whenever their bins are eventually emptied.

Some say they are still waiting for their membership sticker, and their bin to be collected, after paying the fee five weeks ago.

It is understood the issue has been flagged up to Barrow Borough Council, who had previously provided the service free of charge. The council allowed FCC to take on the collections as a commercial venture until 2024.

One resident, Jo Dufour, has become so frustrated she has taken to writing a tongue-in-cheek poem:

£35 down the swanny,

What am I to do with it,

Decant it into bin bags,

And take it to the tip?

Ring the firm and complain again,

Will it have any sway?

Sorry we cannot help you sir,

It's not your collection day,

Here's an idea you could try this,

To stop the collectors taking the p***,

Disguise your bin and paint it red,

It'll be taken on Friday with your recycling instead!
