A REPEAT offender who broke a restraining order four times has been sentenced to five months in prison.

Josh Michael Webster, of no fixed address, appeared before Furness Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

The 20-year-old was in court to be sentenced for two breaches of a restraining order and for failing to answer bail on Thursday.

Prosecution solicitor, Mr Robert Smith, told the court Webster was the subject of a restraining order taken out by his mother, Helen Edmondson.

The conditions of this order stated he was by no means to contact Mrs Edmondson but on January 12 he entered his mother's house through an unsecured rear door and went to sleep in an upstairs bedroom.

The police were called and he was arrested at the address in Brown Street, Barrow.

Mr Smith told the court this latest offence was the fourth breach of the restraining order which was in effect until March 18, 2018.

In spite of this breach, Mr Smith told magistrates the mother of Webster did not want to press charges against her son. This was confirmed by a signed statement in the arresting officer's notebook.

Another breach of the order took place on Friday January 20.

Defence solicitor Michael Graham said that the contact which lead to the breach of the order was initiated by the defendant's mother.

He said: "The address is where his father, brothers and sisters live. His mother initiated that contact. He succumbed to his family's wishes."

Presiding magistrate Stephen Baker said: "You have not engaged with the specialist agencies since your release from prison and you have offended when on licence."

Webster was sentenced to eight weeks in prison for the breach on January 11, and eight weeks for the breach on January 20.

He was sentenced to four weeks in prison for failing to answer bail.

He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
