A 21-year-old has been fined after being caught with a 2cm knife in his pocket during a stop and search. 

Liam Anthony Fields appeared by videolink from HMP Liverpool before Furness Magistrates' Court, Abbey Road, Barrow,on Thursday (26) Prosecutor Mr John Appleby explained: "The car the defendant was travelling in was stopped by police about 1pm on Cecil Street in Barrow. All three defendants were searched and in Mr Field's pocket they found a small fishing knife. It was effectively a lock knife. He was taken into custody and told police he had been fishing two days earlier at a pond in Barrow."

Fields, of St Kevin's Drive, Kirkby, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to possession of a folding knife with a locking blade on September 2, last year. 

Defence solicitor Mr David Bridge said: "There's not a lot I can say in way of mitigation. 

"We are talking about a knife here that was so small and has a blade of 2cm." 

Fields was fined £200 and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge. He was also told to pay £85 towards court costs.
