POLICE have confirmed that the 87-year-old man involved in the road traffic collision at Grasmere yesterday has since died.

The man, from Grasmere, sustained a serious head injury after overturning his mobility scooter at around 4pm yesterday (Thursday) on Red Bank Road. ​He was airlifted to hospital but sadly died later in the evening.

At this stage it is not believed that any other vehicles were involved.​ Police, Mountain Rescue and the Air Ambulance attended the scene.

The road was closed for some time afterwards while police carried out collision investigation work.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC 2210 Sophie Edmondson of the Mobile Support Group at Kendal on 101.​
