A MAN accused of assaulting a member of staff at Furness General Hospital has been granted bail.

Jamil Miah, 29, of Spencer Street, Burnley, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Peter Dyer on March 10 at Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He also denied using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards Dyer and Stephanie Gillies.

Miah, who was defended by Mr Trystan Roberts, was granted conditional bail by presiding magistrate Mr Stephen Baker.

The terms of his bail conditions require Miah not to enter Cumbria apart from for his trial and to reside at his home address in Burnley.

He must also report to Burnley police station on a daily basis and not contact any of the witnesses involved in the case.

Miah will stand trial at Furness Magistrates' Court on Wednesday December 7.
