A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out an attack on Barrow Island.
The assault happened last night at around 11.30pm in Schooner Street. The 28-year-old victim was left with serious head injuries and another man was seen running away from the scene in the direction of Walney.
The victim remains at Furness General Hospital where his condition has been described as serious.
A 28-year-old man, from Barrow, has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He has been detained for questioning.
Specially trained officers are supporting the victim’s family as inquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Jason McKenna, South Cumbria CID, said: “We have a team of detectives conducting numerous inquiries. This was a very serious assault leaving a male with severe head injuries.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal for anyone with information to contact us. Any information, no matter how insignificant you may deem it, could assist our investigation.”
