A POLISH man has appeared in court after being charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a crash in Cumbria.

Police were called at 6.48am on Tuesday following a two vehicle collision on the A6 at Shap.

A 54-year-old woman from Shap died following the collision between a Ford Focus and a HGV. The woman was the driver of the Ford Focus.

The driver of the HGV was Adam Rybicki, a 51-year-old man from Zwyciestwi Obole in Poland. He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday.

No plea was entered and Rybicki will stand trial at Carlisle Crown Court on February 15. He was granted conditional bail to an address in Russell Rise, Luton, and will be fitted with an electronic tag, requiring him to remain at the property between 7pm and 7am every day. He has also surrendered his identity card as part of his bail conditions.
