When I venture out for lunch in Barrow I always struggle to keep it healthy but thanks to the opening of a new little vegetarian cafe I'm not only able to have a delicious lunch but I'm not racked with guilt afterwards.

Pastures Pantry is tucked away in Scott Street. Opening last month, the cafe already has a steady stream of regular customers.

What makes this cafe stand out the most is it was inspired by the business owners global travels. Now I'm not a vegetarian - in fact, I eat meat most days but I can appreciate vegetarian food and showed up eager to taste the different meals they had on offer.

The cafe is beautifully decorated with pictures of the couple's travels adorning the walls. The atmosphere is welcoming and immediately you are greeted by an array of delicious smells.

After what felt like hours of struggling to decide what I wanted I settled on ordering a No 64 smoothie. The ingredients included pineapple, mint, spinach, kale, banana and apple and was hands down the nicest smoothie I'd ever had.

It was thick, fresh and tasty and with no guilty feelings afterwards it was definitely a win.

For food, I decided on an Italian veg bake with a Greek salad for side and a generous scooping of homemade coleslaw. It was delicious. As soon as it was plated up I was excited. A vibrant dish of vegetables including courgettes, tomatoes and aubergines with a crusty breadcrumb topping greeted me. It was exactly what I was looking for. Warm, delicious and filling.

The homemade coleslaw complemented it beautifully and I decided from that point on to never settle for store-bought coleslaw again.

My friend who accompanied me decided to go for something a bit different and ordered the brie and roasted pepper frittata with a chickpea and bean salad. After wolfing it down she was delighted that this particular lunch date didn't feel like sinning at all.

After settling the bill and complimenting the chef I couldn't resist quickly purchasing a gluten free chocolate brownie and to say I wasn't disappointed is an understatement. I happily munched it as I walked back to the office feeling extremely satisfied that I'd found a new favourite place to lunch.
