RUBBISH has been dumped in a back alley in Barrow - just days after the council cleared the litter hotspot.

Barbara Herbert, 62, took a picture of the alley, which is located between Scott Street and Buccleuch Street on Monday October 24 after noticing it on her way back from the shops.

She sent it to FixMyStreet - a website that allows people to report things such as graffiti, fly tipping, broken paving slabs, or street lighting. She also notified Barrow Borough Council who sent out a streetcare team to clean up the mess.

However, earlier today, Mrs Herbert was horrified to discover even more litter had been dumped in the back alley.

Mrs Herbert said after the first incident: "I was just doing some shopping in town and walking past back Street Scott and Buccleuch Street I noticed the dreadful mess.

"I'm getting fed up with it, I don't know if it's the council or people just not caring about there surroundings.

"I don't think it is good when we are expecting several thousand people to come and work in Barrow - it doesn't give a good impression of our town."

Lisa Rae, deputy manager of Bumblebee At The Hive in Scott Street, said she has complained to the council on numerous occasion about rubbish clogging up the alley.

She said: "This has been going for at least two years. Last week it looked lovely and clean but now it looks like this.

"It's off-putting; you don't want to go out there because you don't know what you are going to be met with.

"People need to have respect for other residents and businesses and clean up their own waste. It shouldn't be down to me to ring the council to get them to clear it up."
