A 43-YEAR-OLD was found with six wraps of crack cocaine in her shoe.

Sarah Sayle avoided a suspended jail term because of the amount of time the case had taken to be dealt with.

Prosecuting barrister Mr Paul Brookwell told Barrow Crown Court how police were called after a suspicious car crash on the A590 near Ulverston. He said: "They went to the defendant's home in Friars Ground, Kirkby. They went to her home and she was arrested and a quantity of diazepam was found in the house. She was worse for wear and under the influence of drugs.

"She came back to the police station the next day and and police became suspicious and they found a bag of crack cocaine in her shoe. It weighed 4.90 grammes and was split into six wraps. It was a reasonably large amount.

"She also had £570 on her in money but this was all accounted for."

Sayle pleaded guilty to possession of diazepam and crack cocaine on November 23, 2014.

The court heard she had cleaned up her act in the last 18 months and not been in in any trouble.

Defence barrister Miss Claire Brocklebank said: "This was a case of simple possession. It has taken 18 months for this case to come to court. She was told that no further action was being taken and then this year she gets a court summons. This was very distressing for her."

Judge Jonathan Gibson: "Clearly the more serious case is the possession of crack cocaine and the amount was reasonably substantial. You had obviously taken to drugs again in 2014. You appear fit and well in the dock. I had considered a short suspended sentence but, because of the long delay in this case, which is not your fault, I'm going to give you a conditional discharge for two years."

Sayle was also told to pay £100 in compensation and a victim surcharge of £15.
