THE story of a little girl who lost her hearing has inspired a remarkable act of generosity from a member of her community.

After finding out about the story of Savannah Sharp, an anonymous donor has given a bike worth £1,000 to be sold in order to raise money for the hospital where Savannah was treated.

The bike was donated to Topmark Cycles in Greengate Street, Barrow.

Bill Nixon, the shop's owner, spoke about the donation.

He said: "The bike is in the shop now, it's hardly been used. It's a Dahon folding bike, and is worth £1,000.

"We're hoping to raise as much as £600 for Savannah's cause by selling it."

The Sharp family, of Lord Roberts Street, Walney, decided to raise money for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital where Savannah was treated.

Savannah's two sisters Lexi, 11, and Hallie, four, have already raised money for the hospital by taking part in a sponsored hair cut.

Classmates from Savannah's school as well as local businesses have helped the family in their fundraising efforts.

They wanted initially wanted to raise £250, but have since smashed that figure, raising more than £950.
