A POP-UP shop selling all sorts of trinkets and goods has sprung up in the centre of a town to raise money for a charitable cause.

The Go For Jo shop in Cavendish Street, Barrow, opened its doors to the public on Wednesday August 3 in the hopes of raising more funds for Jo's Appeal.

The charity was set up in honour of popular Evening Mail community journalist Jo Davies, who died in August last year.

Jo's mum Norma Halpin is running the shop.

She said: "It's been really good so far and we're getting a really good response.

"We've got everything - clothes, shoes, bags and people just keep donating more.

"Anything we make is a bonus and like I always say, every great river starts with a trickle.

"Every little helps really and small amounts all add up so come and find a bargain."

Mrs Davies was first diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer in January 2010.

Less than a year after the 38-year-old passed away, the charity set up in the days before her death has continued to surpass every expectation she and her family could ever have had.

The drive to carry on the legacy of Jo, a much-loved wife, daughter, sister and friend, has seen more than £32,000 raised so far.

In July this year, a £20,000 donation was given to The Eve Appeal - a national charity which funds research into gynaecological cancers.

Mrs Halpin added: "That much can make such a big difference to someone.

"50p isn't very much but when we keep collecting it, it all adds up."

Jo's friends and family keep creating new and exciting ways to fundraise and have been overwhelmed with support, generous donations and offers of help.

Mrs Halpin said: "People keep coming and handing things in and friends are coming and helping as well as my sister.

"The shop is open partly because we have so much stuff left over from the last sale and everyone has been so kind in donating."

The pop-up in Cavendish Street is in what used to be Forrest's electrical opposite Wrapport and will be open for one month every Wednesday to Friday from 10am until 3pm.
