VIRTUAL reality came to Barrow at the weekend with a pop-up arcade in Bar Five.

The event was organised by the owners of VR shop Vorteka in Ulverston, giving gaming enthusiasts the chance to try out some top of the range headsets.

Both young and old were eager to sample the HTC Vive which enables interaction with the surroundings and the Oculus Rift which is good for driving simulation.

Phil Turner, owner of VR shop Vorteka said:"It's that long since we've seen anything new.

"It seems corny but it's true. It does make you feel like a kid again.

"People just come out of it smiling and wide-eyed."

This year Mr Turner has plans to expand by opening a shop in Wrexham, the hometown of his business partner Ed Booth.

But following on the success of this one-off virtual experience he isn't ruling out making it a regular event.

He said: "It was nice to get it all together and give people a range of things to try.

"We would like to do more and Bar Five is a perfect venue for it.

"I wouldn't want to write anything off. It's all just one open playing field at the moment."
