AN inspiring Barrow police officer with a terminal illness has fulfilled one of her dreams as she and her husband renewed their wedding vows.

PC Amanda Rawlinson, and her husband Mark, a Barrow police sergeant, had set up a 12-month plan of things they wanted to do after she was diagnosed with cancer.

However, the disease has since progressed, and this heartbreaking news mean that the couple have had to shorten their list.

Mr and Mrs Rawlinson have, however, succeeded in bringing one of those bucket list dreams to life as they renewed their vows in Barrow on Friday.

Mrs Rawlinson, 49, said she has been "overwhelmed" by the way things have turned out, and wanted to thank her friends, family and the community for their support.

Mrs Rawlinson said: "It has been quite overwhelming and really heartwarming how people have helped out with it (the service).

"You just realise how kind people are. I think Barrow people are like that and they generously pull together."

The couple were married in Jamaica in 2004, with no friends or family present. The renewal of their vows meant that they could share that joyous moment with friends and family last week.

Thanks to slick and effective planning, and valuable help from others, Mr and Mrs Rawlinson managed to make Friday's celebration possible in just over four weeks.

Mr Rawlinson said: "It has only been about four weeks in the making to pull it all together, it has just been incredible.

"The community spirit when things like this happen, Barrow really comes into its own.

"Amanda deserves this, that is the bottom line. Everything is because she deserves this celebration."

Both Mr and Mrs Rawlinson also had plenty of thanks for Jill Heath, owner of All About Weddings North West, who helped bring the dream day to fruition.

Mrs Heath also helped to bring together the wedding of Jeff Holt and Gemma Moorby in Newby Bridge at the end of last month.

She said: "It has all come together brilliantly, and once again I would like to thank the people of Furness for their kind and generous contributions."
