Under the new budget plan, which is open to public consultation, council tax is set to be frozen for 2016/17.

The freeze means residents in Band D homes will continue to pay £216.94 to Barrow council.

But people’s total council tax bill will depend on any increases set by Cumbria County Council and the police – plus a parish council add-on precept for people in Dalton, Askam and Lindal.

Presently, a Band D resident in Barrow would continue to pay £1,587 overall.

Another fee that will remain frozen for the year is car parking in the borough.

For example, the charge for pay and display car parking tickets will remain at £1.30 for an hour and £2.30 for two hours.

Charges for the Park Leisure Centre and The Forum have been left in the hands of the respective venue managers, in accordance with council policy.

Generally, fees and charges for services are set to increase by around 2.5 per cent across the board.

A couple of examples include:

- The sale of a grave in a cemetery will rise from £472 to £484 (a 2.54 per cent increase).

- A standard allotment plot will increase from £92.75 to £94.92 (a 2.34 per cent increase).

- A single indoor market stall price will increase from £42.80 to £43.85 (a 2.45 per cent increase).
