POLICE have been alerted to a spate of shed and garage break-ins and asking people to be vigilant.
There have been a number of reported incidents recently in the Barrow and Dalton areas.
Police say thieves exploit open windows and doors and many are opportunists who do not plan their crimes but look for easy ways to enter properties through open doors or windows.
Officers say take the time to ensure that your property is secure including all allotments, sheds, greenhouses and outbuildings.
A force spokesman said: "Crime remains low in South Cumbria and we work to keep it that way. Please be alert for any similar crimes and report any suspicious behaviour to the Police on 101."
