A FLEET of swanky new vehicles costing more than £2 million will hit the Lakes next month dishing out free wifi and USB chargers.

Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire will be introducing the new tech-savvy vehicles across route 555 which transports tourists to some of the region's most iconic hot-spots.

Costing around £2.5 million, the 12 buses will set a new high standard of travel.

Not only equipped with wifi and USB's they will also have Italian leather seating, special wheelchair and pushchair access and greener engines.

Managing Director for Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, Matthew Cranwell said: "We are really excited about launching our new and enhanced vehicles which will continue to serve the local community who rely on bus services as part of their everyday commute.

"During the recent closure of the A591 between Grasmere and Keswick we have seen how vital the 555 route really is and the investment in 12 brand new buses demonstrate Stagecoach’s continued commitment to the Lakes."

But it is not just commuters who will benefit from the investment.

New direct flights which connect Manchester to Beijing are expected to add to the amount of tourists from the far east visiting the Lake District this summer.

Operating along the well used A591 , Stagecoach's 555 connects Cumbria's top tourist spots from Windermere to Kendal, among others.

A bigger timetable and more frequent services will also be implemented alongside the launch of the new costly buses.

It is thought the introduction of wifi and chargers will make the experience more pleasant for travellers as well as give the area's public transport a boost in to the 21st century.

Stagecoach are inviting you to experience their luxurious buses before they are officially unveiled on our roads next month.

You can check them out on Thursday 30 June at Kendal Market Square or on Friday 1st July at Waterhead Car Park, Ambleside or Booths Car Park, Keswick.
