SCHOOL children have been forced to stay inside during their play time following menace seagulls lurking on the playground.

Teachers at Barrow Island Community school in Barrow have been forced to make the decisions to keep the children from playing outside during their break time.

The decision comes after teachers noticed the baby seagull on the school grounds which led them to notice the two large seagulls on watch on the roof of the school.

The fear is that if the children are let outside they will be attacked by the birds.

The two larger seagulls have been keeping watch over its baby and diving at anyone who gets to close.

A staff member at the school, said: "We have kept the children inside for safety reasons. T

he children aren't scared of the birds, but we can't have children being attacked by seagulls.

The incident which prevented the children from playing outdoors yesterday, has since been solved.

"The birds have since been removed. It took quite a bit of time but we were clapping and shooing them away. The baby one flew away and the larger ones soon followed.

"We just can't risk the children getting hurt."

The seagulls are an annual problem for the Barrow school as the birds begin nesting at this time of year.
