A BARROW school has taken advantage of its ever growing vegetable gardens to grow pumpkins just in time for Halloween.

Year One pupils at Dane Ghyll Primary School carved ghoulish faces to make jack-o'-lanterns which were showcased ready for the school's annual Halloween disco for infants and juniors which took place on Thursday October 20.

Headteacher Caron Reynolds praised the school's enthusiasm which made Halloween another spine-chilling success.

She said: "The Halloween disco has become a part of the school and Parent-Teacher Association calendar.

"Everyone takes part and enjoys the event as a bit of lighthearted fun and a chance to dress up in their favourite costume. It's great to see the number of plants that come from our own school gardens."

With the help of the school's gardener Louise Postlethwaite, the pupils have watched the pumpkins grow in size and stature over the last few months just in time for Halloween.

The sensible youngsters also fished out the seeds from this year's pumpkins so that they're ready to plant again in Spring.
