CHILDREN'S fiction came to life in the shape of a giant peach to kick-start an exciting programme of events dedicated to one of the world's greatest writers.
Visitors to Barrow library fell into one of Roald Dahl's greatest works, James and the Giant Peach , when they stepped through the doors of the Ramsden Square venue last week.
A huge inflatable orange peach took up home among the shelves and books as special activities are put on in honour of the much-loved author.
Last Thursday, the first James and the Giant Peach drama workshop was held, celebrating some of the author's most iconic characters and classic scenes.

Children aged five to 12 have another chance to take part in the workshop on August 11 from 11am until noon.
This year's Summer Reading Challenge, an annual drive to get children to read six books during the school holidays, has a Roald Dahl theme and is called, The Big Friendly Read.
Erin Hughes, librarian at Barrow, said: "We are having a giant inflatable peach on the grass in front of the main library during the summer holidays and to add to the fun we are having a fancy dress competition on Thursday August 11 at 1pm, with judging at 1.45pm.
"We would like the children to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character."
Road Dahl 'pyjama drama' sessions are also planned at libraries across the Barrow borough, with the event for ages seven and under taking place at Barrow library today from 10.30am to 11.30am, at Roose library today from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, at Walney library on Tuesday August 16 from 10.30am to 11.30pm, and at Dalton Community Centre on Tuesday August 16 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Any families wanting to attend these events or any others should ring or visit their local library to check on availability and book places.
