GENEROUS donations of Easter eggs have been received by a foodbank to give to needy families.

Barrow Foodbank is asking the public for chocolate Easter eggs and treats to give out to children, families and individuals who find themselves having to use the lifeline service.

The foodbank, run by the Trussell Trust charity, has thanked all those who have made donations.

They include brothers Matt and Greg Parkes who arrived at Barrow Foodbank, at Abbey Road Methodist Church, with armfuls of Easter eggs as a treat for those who benefit from the foodbank.

Even the winner of the Evening Mail Easter Egg giveaway has said he wants his prize to go to the foodbank.

Will Mallinson, 23, from Barrow, was selected at random as the winner of a luxury Belgian chocolate Easter egg with salted caramel truffles. But Mr Mallinson requested that the treat is given to the foodbank.

Alison Griffiths, deputy project manager at Barrow Foodbank, thanked those who have made donations and said: "Easter eggs will be very welcomely received. It's important for children, families and people to have a nice treat like this, because this would be an extra cost to them."
