A PARAMEDIC has denied sexually assaulting a patient during an ambulance call-out, The Mail can exclusively reveal.

An ambulance was called to a property in Barrow on the evening of Wednesday April 11 to attend to a patient.

The following morning two allegations of sexual assault were made to police, one by the patient and one by the paramedic. Both were subsequently arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and the paramedic was suspended.

A Cumbria Constabulary spokeswoman said: “An investigation is ongoing into an allegation of sexual assault at an address on 12th April 2018.

“A man from Barrow was arrested in connection with the investigation. He was subsequently released under investigation.

“Enquiries are ongoing into this investigation.”

Barrow Ambulance Station Police have confirmed to The Mail that a woman was also arrested at the same time following an allegation of sexual assault.

A second North West Ambulance Service employee has been suspended.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: “The trust is aware of the incident concerning the arrest of a staff member and is assisting Cumbria Police with their enquiries.”

The police investigation is ongoing.
