THE Barrow community has banded to raise money for a mother to fly out to her injured son.

Jonathon Colman, Barrow, is thought to have sustained injuries in a "bad accident" while away on holiday with his friends in Zante, Greece.

Becki Butcher, from Walney, set up a gofundme appeal to help Mr Colman's mother, Charlotte, with flight costs in a bid to get her out to her son.

In the gofundme post Mrs Butcher said: "Charlotte's son has had a bad accident while on holiday and is now in hospital waiting surgery.

"Charlotte is flying out on Sunday, her son is having the operation on Monday.

"We are setting up this page to help Charlotte out with flight, accommodation and anything else she needs while she is out there while watching over her son.

"So if you could help us out it would be greatly appreciated."

In just 20 hours the Barrow community has banded together to smash the initial target of £1000.

A total of 87 people have so far raised £1200.

Friends from around Furness have left supportive comments on the page.

Daryl Johnson, one donor, said: "Get yourself home safe buddy", another Emma Smyth said "Here’s wishing Jonathan a full & speedy recovery."

The Foreign Office have said they are aware of the incident.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We are assisting a British man in Zante following an accident and are in touch with his family and the local authorities."

Barrow MP John Woodcock has also shown his support, a spokesman from his office said: "While this office hasn't been contacted about this matter the MP stands ready to help in anyway he can."
