FOLLOWING a dramatic bomb scare at the BAE shipyard this week the firm has advised its workers on what to do should it ever happen again.
On Tuesday (19) part of the shipyard was evacuated for five hours after a suspicious item was discovered.
Bridge Road and Ferry Road were locked down entirely by the police as the bomb squad were mobilised to the area.
Following hours of investigation the area was declared safe and staff were allowed to return to work.
Following the incident, a BAE spokesman thanked the police for their professionalism during the scare.
He said "Following Tuesday's incident, we have now issued additional guidance to employees on what action to take should they find anything suspicious on site. This is purely precautionary and we have no reason to believe there is any increased threat to our business.
"The safety of our employees is of paramount importance and we would like to thank both Cumbria Police and the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit for the professional way in which they dealt with the matter."
