BARROW Foodbank is hoping to raise awareness for its summer campaign next week.

On Sunday July 30, Summer Soul in the Park will be held from noon until 8pm in Barrow Park.

The event offers a chance to donate food to the foodbank as well as listening to northern soul, Motown, Stax , Philadelphia, Atlantic and modern soul all played on vinyl by Barrow's soul DJs.

Ann Mills, project manager at the foodbank, is hoping this event will encourage more people to donate.

She said: "It is hoped this event will raise awareness for the foodbank. We are hoping people will get into the spirit of things and bring food down.

"So far we have raised an additional 7,097kg of food than we would normally have received at this time. This food will provide 16,898 meals for people in food poverty."

A drive by The Mail to increase the level of donations to the foodbank came to a successful end yesterday.

Mrs Mills said: "Some people donate cash instead of food and this goes towards buying the food for the foodbank."

On the day, there will be a raffle and a tombola and people are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy.
