A FLOOD warning has been issued for parts of Barrow, Walney, Ulverston and Millom for today.

A flood warning is in force for the high tide today, with tidal spray and onshore flooding likely to occur.

Some roads and properties are likely to be affected and people are warned to stay away from the coast.

Environment Agency officers are on the ground ensuring defences are in good working order, monitoring sea levels and wind directions. The tide is forecast to peak between 11.45pm tonight and 00.30am tomorrow morning.

The Environment Agency forecasts that the astronomical tide of 5.71 m AoD at Heysham will have an additional surge of 0.15.m. High water can be expected for 2 hours before and after the peak.

Astronomical tide heights are increasing towards spring tides, peaking on Monday into Tuesday.

Canal Foot in Ulverston has crossed the tidal flood warning threshold and other areas along this section of coast including Sandside and Arnside are close to flood warning thresholds

The areas in Barrow at risk include: West Shore Park, Biggar Bank Road, Tummer Hill Marshes, Rampside, Vickerstown, Cavendish and Ramsden Dock, Salthouse Mills Business Centre and Roosecoat Power Station.

The areas around North Morecambe Bay at risk include: Roa Island, Roosebeck, South Ulverston, Canal Foot, East Plain Farm, Arnside and Sandside.

The areas at risk around the Duddon Estuary include: Haverigg, Millom Marsh, Foxfield, Sandside and Dunnerholme.
