HERE are some quirky facts you may not know about British Summer Time
- The only other county in Europe to use British Summer Time is Portugal.
- During the Second World War, from 1941-1945 the clocks were run two hours ahead of GMT, known as British Double Summer Time. It was reverted to normal after the war's end.
- Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, who wrote the songs Clocks and Daylight is the great-great grandson of William Willett, who proposed BST in 1907.
- Between 1968-71, BST was trialled all year round, but it was dropped after Scotland recorded a net increase in people killed or seriously injured on the roads.
- A YouGov poll in 2011 showed 53 per cent of Britons supported moving the clocks forward permanently.
