TWO companies with big Furness operations have aired their views on how what Brexit means for the energy industry to the heart of government.

Walney Wind Farm operator Dong Energy and Siemens, which has a factory in Ulverston, both sent representatives to meet David Davis, the secretary of state for exiting the European Union, at a roundtable.

Last month Mr Davis said he wanted to hear the views of business and industry before negotiations to leave the EU start.

He was joined by the minister of state for energy and intellectual property, Baroness Neville Rolfe, minister for exiting the EU, David Jones, and senior board level executives from businesses and trade associations.

Subjects discussed included the electricity and gas markets, the nuclear sector, infrastructure investment and the supply chain.

They also spoke about pricing, policy, trade and regulatory requirements.

Mr Davis issued a joint statement with Baroness Rolfe and the chief executive of government body Energy UK, Lawrence Slade, who also attended the meeting.

They said: "Britain’s energy sector has made great strides over the past decade. We are world leaders in areas like tackling climate change, renewables investment and oil and gas innovation."
