FIREFIGHTERS from Barrow and Ulverston were called to rescue a worker who had fallen into a machine at a recycling plant.

A fire crew from Barrow and two crews from Ulverston were tasked to the Shanks Waste Management Centre at Sowerby Woods in Barrow last night at around 7.45pm to reports a worker had fallen into a machine.

On arrival, paramedics confirmed the worker had managed to climb out of the machine. He is not believed to have been seriously hurt.

It is not yet known if the incident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
