POLICE are investigating and a man has been arrested after a woman was allegedly doused in petrol and threatened with being set on fire.

Firefighters from Barrow were called by police at just before midnight last night to a property at Egerton Court on Barrow Island.

The initial call had been to reports of attempted murder but this was later downgraded to attempted grievous bodily harm.

A woman had allegedly been doused in petrol and had been threatened with being set on fire.

Firefighters assessed the explosive risk of the flat with gas monitors and the woman was treated at the scene by paramedics.

A 30-year-old man from Barrow was arrested and remains in custody this morning.
