FIREFIGHTERS used specialist gas monitoring equipment after a number of Barrow residents reported a worrying smell.
The call came in at about 10.30pm last night after someone in the Harrogate Street area reported smelling petrol. A crew from Barrow was tasked to the job, and on arrival firefighters spoke to a number of other residents who had noticed the same smell, both inside and outside their homes.
Firefighters used gas monitoring equipment to assess the air quality but could not find any evidence of a discharge of petrol.
