JUST before 4am this morning (22) Walney Fire Crews were mobilised alongside the engine from Barrow to reports of a flat fire in Tay Court, Barrow.

On arrival, a third floor flat was found to be alight and crews feared people could still be inside the building so additional emergency services were called to assist.

Ulverston fire along with Barrow police provided backup.

When crews entered the property they found no-one to be inside and the fire was brought under control.

Severe damage has been caused to the building and the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service is now working with the Police to establish the cause.
