DELICIOUS dishes and a party atmosphere entertained more than a hundred guests at a fundraising event in Barrow.

Double Michelin-starred chefs Simon Rogan and Brett Graham took over the kitchen of Abbey House Hotel last night to serve a stunning menu in aid of the Lake District Farmers Armstrong Family Charitable Fund.

The talented chefs produced six delicious courses, showcasing some of the very best produce found in Furness and the Lake District.

It was all to raise money for the charitable fund set up by the late Barrow businessman and philanthropist Ray Armstrong.

Brett Graham, who began his cooking career in Australia at the age of 15 and now runs The Ledbury in London, ranked the 14th best restaurant in the world, said: "I love coming up to the Lake District.

"I love working with Simon and it's a great team.

"Lake District Farmers are wonderful. They do a lot of great charity work and this is one of those events where you know all the money actually goes to good causes."

Simon Rogan, who runs the world famous L'Enclume in Cartmel, said: "This is my fifth year back. I'm part of the furniture.

"Obviously it is a very worthwhile cause and the work they do it's incredible. People's lives are changed and improved beyond doubt."

Some of the dishes diners enjoyed included Herdwick lamb and aubergine glazed with black tea and olives, and turbot marinated in rice bran.

Last night was the first time the event was held at Abbey House Hotel as the popular food gala this year takes place over two weekends, the first being last weekend .

The annual celebrity chef event held in Dalton, is hosted and sponsored by Clarence House Country Hotel and Restaurant.

Dan Austin, managing director of Lake District Farmers, said: "It's a great atmosphere. We are delighted to have two of the leading hotels in the area involved and supporting us."

Diners dug deep in their pockets in various charity auctions to add to the charitable fund's kitty during the evening.

John Horton, general manager of Abbey House Hotel, said: "It's a great atmosphere and a great event.

"We hope to support the Armstrong Charitable Fund for many years to come."

*The fourth and final chefs night will be held tonight at Abbey House Hotel featuring Angela Hartnett and Alyn Williams.
