THE bid to take a five-year-old to Disneyland continues after her late father's promise.

After the death of Barrow man Chris Dixon, aged 32, last year, his daughter Amelia was left heartbroken.

A family friend stepped in to give her "one last present" from her father shortly before Christmas.

Gemma Woodburn said: "After what happened with Chris, we were all left devastated - especially Amelia.

"I am close friends with his mum and dad and I now he always wanted to take her to Disneyland Paris.

"Every child dreams of going to Disneyland and she wanted to go and meet the princesses, so that's something he really wanted to do for his daughter.

"I just thought it would be really amazing if we could pull together enough money to give her one last present from him."

A JustGiving page was set up in December in an effort to raise £1,000, and has raised almost half the amount with ten days still to run.

Mrs Woodburn said: "It's hard to put into words everything that's happened, especially for a child of that age.

"For her to go through something like that so young is hard to understand. Any amount of money we can raise to help get Amelia there is amazing."

The Barrow community was left shocked when the body of Mr Dixon was found at the side of railway lines in the town in November.

He had been missing for more than three weeks, with desperate efforts to find him proving unsuccessful.
