FANS of Beatrix Potter can look forward to a busy start to April, as film crews begin shooting for a star-studded remake of one of the authors classic books.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit is being made into a Hollywood blockbuster 'Peter Rabbit', with stars from the big screen, including US chat show host James Corden and the Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie, lending their voices to the motion picture.

The movie will take in the stunning scenery of Windermere and Ambleside and then combined with CGI animation, with the film scheduled for a March 2018 release date.

Rachel Tyson, Head of Marketing & Sales at Cumbria Tourism said:

“We are really excited that the new Peter Rabbit film is being shot here in Cumbria over the coming weeks.

The Beatrix Potter connection attracts thousands of visitors every year and we look forward to welcoming many fans to the region to see the Lakeland countryside that inspired Beatrix Potter to write her stories.

We look forward to the positive impact the film will have on the local economy and we hope to see an increase in bookings and trade across the county.”

While movie enthusiasts look forward to filming throughout the first week of April, rare holiday snaps by Beatrix's father, Rupert, will be auctioned at the 1818 Auctioneers on the Cumbria, Lancashire border.

The collection of photos are seeking to fetch between £800 - £1,200, with one of the 41 black and white photos believed to be of Beatrix herself.

The photos were taken between 1909 and 1913, with one featuring Beatrix sitting on the porch of Broad Leys, a house she rented on Lake Windermere.

At the time Beatrix was working on The Tale of Ginger and Pickles.

There are also views of Bowness and Windermere, including the Old England Hotel dated 1911.

Her father, Rupert, was a keen amateur photographer and a member of the Photographic Society of London.

The collection is being sold by an anonymous vendor whose family once worked for Beatrix’s mother in Windermere.

Last year celebrated 150 years since Beatrix Potter's birth, with the Royal Mint issuing special coins in commemoration.

The auction will take place on Monday 3 April.
