FOLLOWING on the tradition of last year's festive fly-tipping, mountains of rubbish has once more been dumped at car parks and recycling sites in Barrow.

The Park Leisure Centre and Barrow Park car park's small recycling bins are surrounded by bags and bags of rubbish.

As well as scores of discarded Christmas present bags, and empty toy boxes, binbags of household waste litter the site. Park Drive, just outside the exit to the car park, is also covered in rubbish, possibly blown away by the strong winds.

Elsewhere in Barrow, mountains of household waste have been thoughtlessly discarded. Recycling locations at Tesco Extra, Tesco Metro in Flass Lane, Asda and Morrisons are overflowing with rubbish.

Last year, just after Christmas, the scene was much the same.

Nappies, tables, chairs, a fridge and old Christmas wrapping are just some of the items that had been dumped outside the recycling centre at the leisure centre. And recycling drop-off points at both Tesco and Morrisons in Barrow were also overflowing with dumped rubbish.

Barrow's tip, in Walney Road, is open as usual throughout the festive period, with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

The tip in Barrow is open 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
