CHRISTMAS is set to enjoy a blast from the past as a festive tradition is brought back to life.

People across Barrow and Walney treasure festive memories of lining the streets waiting for Father Christmas to ride along and a dish out tasty treats for one and all.

Spurred on by this sense of nostalgia, Walney resident Tony Murphy wanted to honour this time-honoured tradition and has organised a special visit from Father Christmas himself to make his way through the streets of Barrow later this month.

St Nick will begin his journey at Roose railway station and will travel on to Barrow before making his way through the streets on a wagon, handing out sweets and fruit to children across the borough.

Mr Murphy said: "It's just something we've been thinking about for years and just thought it was time to bring it back."

The event has been planned for Saturday December 17.

Barrow Borough Councillor John Murphy is delighted to support his son's idea and hopes it will inject a touch of festive fever into the town.

He said: "It's just nice to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to some of the areas around town.

"Hopefully it can bring back the magic of Christmas."
