BARROW AFC fans soaked up every drop of the FA Cup experience and congratulated their heroes.

FA Cup fever gripped Holker Street when the Bluebirds took on the in-form League One side Rochdale.

The big occasion was a day out for the town with AFC fans of all ages getting behind the team.

Chris Fittes, 25, of Barrow, said: "It was a really good game, we played well. I went to the two games at Bristol Rovers - one of the best games I've been to following Barrow, and to the Taunton game.

"We battled, but Rochdale were the better team. We have come to the end of our unbeaten run, now we have to concentrate on the league and the FA Trophy.

"Barrow was the team to watch, it was great to have Football Focus at Holker Street. The whole town has had a good feel about it."

Michael Thompson, 26, of Barrow, said: "It's been a special game, the atmosphere has been absolutely electric. Couldn't ask for a better day out, apart from the weather.

"Rochdale are a quality side, they brought the team here and played well. Barrow were a bit unlucky, on a different day we might have turned it around."

Tom Ashton, 25, of Barrow, said: "It was a shame, we were always at odds not to win.

"There was a lot of spirit in the lads, we were just unlucky and Rochdale were a better side. Barrow played really well though and the atmosphere was great."

Richard Hatton and his family from Urswick were in the crowd. He said: "I thought Barrow played well. I though it was a good performance against a better side. They did well knocking Tranmere and Bristol out.

"It's a long time since it has been a sell-out like that so it was good to see. We should have more here for the league games, considering we are only one step away from the football league."

His sons Jack and Ronnie Hatton, aged eight and five, also enjoyed the game. Jack said: "Barrow were good and tried hard. They had some chances."

Cousins Leah White, 11, and Jack Haney, 10, of Barrow, had a great day.

Leah said: "I thought Barrow were good and it was a good game. We are proud of them. I enjoyed the FA Cup atmosphere."

Jack, who plays for Walney Blues, said: "I thought we played well. They have done the town proud. Rochdale are of a higher standard. I really enjoyed the game and the atmosphere."
