THE family of a 24-year-old cyclist who suffered life-threatening injuries during a hit-and-run have said he is now in a stable condition.

Police arrested a motorist after a manhunt which lasted for four days following a collision at the junction of Park Road and Priory Road in Ulverston on July 26.

John Burns, 30, from Sycamore Road in Manchester, was charged with seven offences after the crash in which he is alleged to have hit the 24-year-old cyclist before fleeing the scene.

Burns appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on August 2 charged with dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, robbery, common assault, vehicle interference, aggravated TWOC and fraud.

He was remanded in custody and is next due to appear at court on September 1.

Police have now issued an update regarding the condition of the cyclist, who remains in hospital.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "Whilst the family are requesting privacy they have acquiesced, given the media interest in the incident, to a short update to say the cyclist is showing signs of recovery and is now stable."
