POLICE officers, firefighters and their 999 colleagues will give members of the public the chance to check out their equipment at an open day this weekend.

Police officers will be joined by fire and ambulance crews as well as the likes of Bay Search and Rescue, both Duddon and Ulverston Inshore Rescue teams, and the Coastguard.

There will be demonstrations, vehicles to climb aboard, police drones to look at, and some police dogs to say hello to, as well as much more.

Alongside emergency workers, other services such as Guide Dogs, the Owl Sanctuary, Neighbourhood Watch and Victim Support will be present.

Superintendent for South Cumbria, Rob O’Connor, said: "Last year’s Emergency Service Day was a fantastic event which saw thousands of people enjoy a good day out. This is another opportunity for people to come and meet us, see what we do, and have some fun.

"It’s also a great way for us to engage with our community and I’d encourage as many people as possible to come and meet us."

The open day will take place between 11am and 4pm on Sunday September 10 at Barrow Police Station in Andrews Way.
